Why is handmade soap better than store-bought?

Store-bought soaps contain detergents and technically are not a soap at all! true soap is simply emulsification of the fats (oils) and salt. Commercial soaps are usually not that.

Why is lye used in a handmade soap?

Lye is sodium used as a binding agent in skincare products. It is not as scary as it sounds. The good news is it has completely evaporated by the time the soap has cured and ready to be sold to you. It is needed to allow the chemical reaction that turns the oils into soap.

What is cold processed soap?

Cold process soap is believed to be the best kind for your skin and the planet. Cold process has been a household staple for years and no other alternative seems to offer the same level of control and benefits.

How long will my homemade bar of cold process soap last?

The bar of soap will last longer than you think. I use ingredients that give you a hard bar but is packed full of moisture. The cold process soaps last longer than the glycerin to do the chemical make-up of the soap. The cold process soap is cured 4-6 weeks so you are getting a pure 100% bar of soap without any water weight. It is recommended for either bar of soap (glycerin or cold process) you place them on a soap saver. This allows the soap to completely dry in between uses and keeps them from sitting in water which ultimately will use up the bar of soap faster.

What is glycerin soap?

Glycerin soap is all-natural before additives are added. It is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Unlike cold-process soaps, glycerin soap is soap before I add anything to it. This means it does not need the cure time that cold-process soap does. However, glycerin soaps easily absorb water meaning it may not last as long as a cold-process soap.

Will handmade soaps treat my condition?

Absolutely no claims are made on product capabilities. The Food and Drug Administration has not evaluated statements. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. I encourage you to read about the ingredients page in these products to decide your skins care. All ingredients are listed for this purpose.

What if my soap/craft has imperfections?

Handcrafted soaps and crafts are made by hand. Soaps are processed and cut by hand; therefore, no two bars or products will be alike. Temperature can make the color appear slightly different from batch to batch, while designs may also vary. It does not affect the quality of the product in the least. Some soap bars may also produce "soda ash," which is a harmless powder-like substance that forms when new soap meets air or has a rapid drop in temperature. This will disappear during the soap's first use. Other handmade products may have small imperfections due to being handmade and give each item character.

What is the difference between essential oils and fragrance oil?

Essential oils are purely extracted from their sources and have therapeutic effects. Fragrance oils are synthetically created for the scent but are safe to use on the skin. It is up to the buyer to be aware that some fragrance oils may irritate your skin. You should consult your doctor if you are unsure!
